The Secrets of Overdraft: How Banks Are Making Billions on Our Small-Dollar Mistakes uses new overdraft-specific call report data from the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council and consumer complaints published by the CFPB. The data shows great variation in rates of overdraft fee revenue, relative for deposit holdings. These differences underscore the fact that bank policies influence how often consumers experience an overdraft.
